My personal creative joy comes from being the kid who always loved…
being selected to read aloud in school
getting the ribbon in the oratorical contest
watching Reading Rainbow with glee (and of course singing the theme song obv)
writing poetry and consuming copious amounts of Def Poetry Jam videos in the early days of YouTube
visiting the library with her grandmother who was a librarian and mother also who worked at a library in her formative years so she could devour the entire summer reading list and get her gift certificate for a free meal at the spaghetti factory (yes, it’s that good - and yes, I still enjoy eating there)
going to Da Poetry Lounge when she realized her favorite poets performed there and she might actually get the chance to meet them, speak to them, and maybe just maybe even have them know her name
playing chess with her grandfather who would let her talk his ear off about the books she read that he would oftentimes read along with her which all rubbed off on her to volunteer at the library in high school and tutor kids in the library during college
performing her own poems every once in a while to audiences and online for anyone willing to listen to the whispers of her soul that weren’t underneath the layers of comedic and theatrical characters she was often cast as
and thus, all of the above ultimately led to this exciting passion that I’ve now developed for
audiobook narration as an adult so now my dream of becoming a library grandparent won’t have to wait any longer nor will it require the need to birth kids or pray for grandkids so I get to cut out the middle (wo)men - whoohoo! and now I can already read to kids or to you
along with becoming a published poet which I’m working on making a reality, real soon, and maybe one day I’ll become a someone’s favorite poet too!
My creative professional journey…
- has been planned - to become an “intentional” rather than “accidental” arts administrator
- has spanned - across the arts and culture sector in arts presenting and producing, municipal and government service organizations, management and executive leadership
- and has expanded - into a focus on professional-meets-personal development with creatives and (so-called “non creatives”) alike, most recently through my work in higher education, at arts and social service organizations, and in the entertainment industry, in tandem with my executive coaching & creative consulting business, Confide Creative.
You know how some folks have linear career and others have a non-linear career path? Well, I’ve had more of a stepping stone climb. With intentionality at the forefront of every single move I’ve made in my career I’ve never really missed a step, I’ve only learned to lift myself higher than I envisioned I could initially go so each step built up the muscle in me to be able to take the next courageous one.

My purposeful creative pursuits…
began the day I decided to chase the whisper of a dream to the only college I applied to as a theatre arts major instead going after of my “lifelong dream” of studying kinesiology to become a physical therapist (following my USATF Youth Track & Field/Cross Country Junior Olympic Championship qualifying career which lasted from age 7-17)
and that twist on my creative pursuit turned into me adding a dance minor to fill that gap where I realized after one kinesiology class I very much preferred the feeling I got from being connected to my body and its kinetic energy of movement way more than I did studying its scientific intricacies regarding how muscles function
and before I knew it was I being cast in plays, musicals, and even a 2-woman show (although I still have nightmares about all those lines I had to memorize) anyhoo through all of that I leaned deeper into this uncanny knack I had for comedic timing (or so folks have told me) which has now paved a way for me into commercial acting
then upon my return to my alma mater as a career coach and professor (I kept searching for ways to dress better so I would not blend in or get confused for a student) which ended up helping me become much more confident in my body as I connected my love of movement into pursuing modeling especially after years of being teased for my skinny jeans, I mean genes (well, who knows, maybe it was both - either way I did my own thang), and even got to directly study under supermodel Coco Rocha (so hah, take that haters!)
and now, whether its leveraging my pursuit of joy into having too much fun as a game show contestant or belting out showtunes when I’m feeling unlimited…
or traveling on creative adventures to discover and create conversations of creative wellbeing between my body, mind, and soul around Italy, in London, or Bali, or some other wonderfully peaceful part of this vast world
at this point, I just keep finding ways to simply enjoy existing as all of me and what brings to life my all-encompassing creativity!
